Support the sound of dreams

February 16, 2011 by Porter

Hey Everyone
Thanks so much for stopping by the site. Its been getting a good number of hits in a short time!
You may notice at the side menu I now have a little box where you Can donate your hard earned $$$ to support the creation and awareness of my music!
Every cent that gets donated through this will go directly into my music. (like pretty much every cent I get anyway) Whether it be gas in the tank or guitar strings and Harmonicas. All you need is a PAY-PAL account. Practicing, trying to writ new material, booking shows, advertising shows, promoting myself and the album all easily create full time jobs in them selves and have there individual costs. Paying someone else to do it is not an option when I’m scraping to make my vehicle insurance payment or other basic costs of living. Believe me, I’m not complaining! I knew it wouldn’t be easy and making these sacrifices only makes me a more creative and driven person.
A little (true)story I sometimes tell on stage gos like this.
Spring 2010 bumming around Vancouver, fresh out of San Francisco and the costly recording studio, Waiting on the far from cheap manufacturing of the album. Every cent I had was being put into the album and the planning of the up-coming cross Canada tour. I was already trying to find places to barrow from since I was way short of the travel funds I would need. The van had broken down in Northern California and even though the mechanic was the best guy in the world and didn’t gain a penny off me. It still took a BIG bite out of the funds that would have kept me a little more comfortable. So I knew I would be playing show to show and hoping I would make enough gas money to get me to the next one. I had quit paying my vehicle insurance and most other regular monthly bills. Living in the Van most nights. Waking up in the morning to start a search for a restaurant to take a morning piss was not the way I like to start a day, but that’s how it had to be.(I was breaking the law just buy driving now an waiting on 1 cop to pull me over and rip down all my plans) I was eating nearly exclusively on the McDonalds value menu and had been for 3 or more months at that point. I was happier and felt more full if I had a few cheap beers some place for dinner instead but even cheap beer costs more than a 1.39 so it wasn’t often. One night the clerk even gave me a FREE small fry to go with my McDouble. I felt like a king! Well it was soon after that my luck struck again. I was walking through a parking lot and on the cement in front of me lay a 2$ coin! I literally yelled with excitement YES!! HOLY SHIT!! YES!! I’d often find nickels, dimes even the odd quarter but this was massive. As I walked on thinking about how I was going to treat myself it struck me…I thought to myself “sweet Jesus its only 2bucks,calm down”. It was then realized how important music is to me and how far I was willing to go/fall to make the dream become a reality. In a sense the dream was already coming true. It wasn’t something I do in my spare time for kicks anymore. Music is my life! Maybe a time will come when I have to come to terms and find a career.. I’ll be able to look back and know that I didn’t fail because I gave it everything in one of the hardest industries to succeed in . OR maybe I wont quit and I’ll keep practicing and writing and the right sets of ears will hear about me and tell a few million other sets and I’ll go from Mcdoubles to Double quarter pounders with cheese! Then YOU can say “I bought that guy a cheese burger when he was nobody” LOL. So PLEASE show your support for music and your belief that we can really be any thing we want when we grow up.

If you choose to help, please make sure you attach a note with your snail-mail address or send it to [email protected] from the e-mail address you used to donate. Any donations at or over 50$ will get you a personally signed gift from me in the near future. If you don’t yet have my album be sure to tell me and you will get one of those as well!

I’m currently booking dates for my UK tour. If you have any helpful info or think you can get me a gig in the UK please contact me. Being unknown makes It’s very hard to get shows and even harder to get paid for them(understandable). I’m currently recruiting street teams to help with putting up posters and spreading awareness of my music. If you think this is something you want to get involved with let me know. It will surely get you some PORTER merch!
Thanks so much for stopping by my page and a massive thank you if you choose to help out.

Truly
